Art Nouveau used less precious metals and stones and more glass, enamel and plated metals than the preceding Victorian era.. As the century progressed, this design style continued to be popular and this piece shows the development towards a hybrid nouveau and deco style.

The opening of Tutankhamen’s tomb in 1922 led to a mania for all things Egyptian and Egyptian motifs in jewellery became all the rage.

The dangling lapis glass beads create the negligee effect even though this is a short necklace.

Super stylish Art Deco 1930’s German Industrial style.

Jakob Bengel’s company originally made watch chains and moved into Art Deco jewellery production in the late 1920’s. Maurwerk (brick or wall work) offers a heightened machine or industrial futuristic aesthetic popular in art deco. Highly sought after, the factory ceased jewellery production due to the start of the 2nd World War.

Minor damage to enamel as you can see from the photos - hence the price. I’ve seen these elsewhere for over £400.

Bohemian Peking Glass beads that are designed to mimic China glass with delicate beautifully coloured enamel bead caps.

Peking glass beads are beads traditionally made by the Imperial Glassworks in Beijing/Peking. However, in the 1890s Bohemian glass manufacturers began to copy mottled Peking glass beads.
